https://ejournaltawak.itkk.ac.id/index.php/hunatech/article/view/80

This study aims to analyze the influence of fintech lending and financial literacy on students’ financial inclusion in the digital era. The research background highlights the growing use of digital financial services among students, which is not yet matched by adequate financial literacy levels. Using a quantitative approach, a survey was conducted on 150 university students in Pontianak who have experience using digital financial services. Data were analyzed through multiple linear regression using SPSS version 25. The results indicate that both fintech lending and financial literacy have a positive and significant effect on financial inclusion, individually and simultaneously. The adjusted R² value of 0.618 shows that 61.8% of the variation in financial inclusion is explained by these two variables. The study concludes that the combination of financial technology utilization and improved financial literacy plays a crucial role in expanding students’ access to financial services. These findings have implications for universities, regulators, and fintech providers in designing effective policies and sustainable financial education programs.

Keywords: fintech lending, financial literacy, financial inclusion
sumitroTheodorus YanzensPaulinus Jang

https://ejournaltawak.itkk.ac.id/index.php/hunatech/article/view/83

This study examines the level of knowledge and use of archaic words among speakers of the Sarawak Malay dialect in Kuching, Sarawak. Specifically, it aims to identify the extent to which archaic lexical items are recognised, understood, and used across different generations, as well as to explain the phenomenon of lexical attrition through Halliday’s Systemic Functional Linguistics (1978). A quantitative research design was employed using a structured online questionnaire (Google Forms) administered to 111 respondents aged between 15 and 45 years. The respondents were divided into three age groups (15–25, 26–35, and 36–45 years) to facilitate generational comparison. The findings indicate that younger speakers are familiar with certain archaic words but rarely use them in daily communication, particularly in modern social and digital contexts. In contrast, respondents aged 26–35 years use archaic words selectively, mainly during family and social interactions, while older speakers demonstrate the highest levels of knowledge and the most consistent use of archaic vocabulary. The findings further suggest that language shift, urbanisation, formal education, and the increasing influence of Standard Malay and English contribute to the gradual decline of traditional lexical items. Based on the perspective of Systemic Functional Linguistics, the reduction in the use of archaic words reflects changes in the social functions of language and communicative practices within the Sarawak Malay community. This study contributes to the documentation of the Sarawak Malay dialect and provides insights into efforts aimed at preserving its linguistic heritage.

Keywords: archaic words; Sarawak Malay dialect; lexical knowledge; language preservation; generational differences
Diyana Farwizah KesuamaDilah Tuah

https://ejournaltawak.itkk.ac.id/index.php/hunatech/article/view/81

Kelantan Malay dialect is one of the major dialects that reflects the cultural identity of the East Coast community. However, in the era of globalization and digitalization, its position is increasingly influenced by Standard Malay, English, and digital language use. This study examines the language attitudes of youth in Bachok towards the Kelantan dialect based on the theoretical framework of Garvin & Mathiot (1968), which emphasizes three main components: language loyalty, language pride, and awareness of norms. A quantitative method was employed, using questionnaires administered to respondents aged 15 to 30. Data were analyzed using the Likert scale to assess language attitudes empirically. Findings reveal that Bachok youth maintain positive attitudes towards the Kelantan dialect, particularly within family and community domains. This demonstrates that the dialect functions not only as a medium for communication but also as a symbol of cultural identity and social solidarity. The study contributes significantly to Malay sociolinguistics, language policy, and cultural empowerment efforts to maintain the sustainability of local dialects.

Keywords: Kelantan dialect, Language attitude, Language loyalty, Language pride, Norm awareness.
Nik Nur Akma Nadzirah Nik Man Dilah Tuah

https://ejournaltawak.itkk.ac.id/index.php/hunatech/article/view/84

This study examines the lexical similarities and differences between older and younger Kayan speakers in Sungai Asap, Belaga, Sarawak. The study pursues two primary objectives: (i) to compare the extent of lexical retention and lexical variation in the basic vocabulary used by older and younger Kayan speakers based on Morris Swadesh's 200-word word list; and (ii) to identify the social factors influencing lexical change across generations. A qualitative descriptive research design was employed, supported by lexicostatistical analysis. Linguistic data were collected through structured interviews with native Kayan speakers representing two generational groups and were analysed using Swadesh's Lexicostatistical Theory (1952) alongside Fishman's Theory of Language Maintenance and Language Shift (1991). The findings indicate that a substantial proportion of the traditional Kayan basic vocabulary has been retained across generations, reflecting the continued vitality of the language within the community. Nevertheless, lexical differences were identified among younger speakers, particularly through lexical replacement, borrowing from Standard Malay, Sarawak Malay, and Iban, as well as minor phonological variation. The study further reveals that multilingual interaction, formal education, interethnic communication, and socioeconomic mobility are the principal social factors contributing to lexical change. Despite these influences, the Kayan language remains actively maintained within family and community domains, demonstrating a strong level of linguistic resilience and cultural continuity. The findings contribute to the documentation of indigenous languages in Sarawak and provide empirical evidence supporting ongoing language maintenance and revitalisation initiatives.

Keywords: Kayan language; lexical comparison; language maintenance; lexical change; Swadesh List; sociolinguistics; indigenous languages; Sarawak
Erlyvia ArangDilah Tuah
